FAQ

Do you have any questions about our system?
We’ve put together the answers to the most frequently asked questions.

What do you do when nothing works anymore?

We recommend the following:

  • Carry out a cross-check (swap different items to analyse the fault)
  • Observe, analyse and record the riding situation (source of the fault) in as much detail as possible (provides a good basis for communication with your specialist dealer)
  • Contact your dealer

What can I check myself if I have any problems?

We recommend that you do the following:

  • Check whether the latest update is available
  • Reset the battery (press and hold the battery button until all LEDs 5-1 have gone out), then press the battery button briefly again.
  • Reset the display (small silver button on the back of the display)
  • Check the connectors (loose connections)

Where is the neodrives drive manufactured?

The neodrives drive is a product of Alber GmbH. Alber GmbH specialises in the development, manufacture and sale of high-quality electric motors used in lightweight electric vehicles such as bicycles and wheelchairs.

“Made in Germany” is no empty promise: all our products are developed, tested and manufactured in Albstadt near Stuttgart – and over 80% of the components we source also come from Germany.

Are the Green Mover and Xion drives also manufactured by Alber?

Yes, the three drive brands – neodrives, Green Mover (Lavida models) and Xion – are manufactured by Alber.

Which bicycle brands use the neodrives system?

Here you will find an up-to-date list of bicycle brands that use our system.

Which bike shop can I buy a pedelec with a neodrive drive system from?

You will also always find a dealer locator on the websites of the bicycle manufacturers that use our system.

Does the neodrives drive make any noise?

The drive operates quietly and without vibration.

Can I retrofit the neodrives system to my standard bike?

Unfortunately not. For liability and safety reasons, we do not offer our system as a retrofit kit.

What kind of driving performance can I expect from a neodrives drive system?

The neodrives drive system is characterised by its smooth, yet powerful assistance when required.

With five assistance levels, every rider can find their ideal riding experience – from the leisurely Sunday cyclist to the range-focused tourer and the sporty city rider.

Thanks to the drive’s silent and vibration-free operation, the riding experience is very similar to that of a bicycle.

How many support levels does the neodrives system offer?

Whilst driving, the driver can choose between five assistance levels and two energy recovery levels.

What level of wear on the derailleur and chain can be expected when using the neodrives system?

Wear is minimised by the direct-drive system. This is a major advantage of the neodrive system over a standard mid-drive motor.

What are the real benefits of energy recovery?

With intensive use on hilly terrain, the battery range can be extended by 5% to 10%. A nice bonus is that the regenerative braking system reduces the load on the brakes, meaning they wear out less quickly.

What is the realistic range I can achieve with the neodrives system?

The actual range achievable depends on many factors. A good indicator of potential range is the battery capacity, which is measured in Wh. Compared to the market average, our system offers a high capacity.

An energy-efficient motor is also crucial for a long range. Our drive system consists of a gearless motor that is built directly into the rear wheel. The power acts directly on the rear wheel, which is why there are no losses due to the gearbox, chain or gears. Thanks to highly sensitive sensors, we achieve an efficiency of 85%.

Other factors affecting range:

  • Selected riding mode or assistance level: In ‘Eco’ riding mode and assistance level 1, you achieve the maximum possible range
  • Payload: rider’s weight + luggage
  • Fitness/own effort/cadence of the rider
  • Wind conditions
  • Topography of the route
  • Surface conditions
  • Tyre pressure
  • Average speed
  • Number of acceleration manoeuvres

Does the neodrives system have a push assist function?

Yes. The push aid is very useful for negotiating short, steep sections, such as a garage ramp.

Can I tune the neodrives system?

We’re afraid we have to disappoint you. Due to strict legal requirements, we have protected our system against unauthorised access.

Can I charge my mobile phone via the screen?

Charging your mobile phone via the displays (20 & 20C) works. All you need is a micro USB cable suitable for charging. Please note that the ‘Source’ end of the cable should be plugged into the display and the ‘Target’ end into your mobile phone.

Is the app for the neodrives Z20 system also available for iOS?

No, unfortunately there is no app available for the neodrives Z20 system in the Apple Store, as Apple does not support our app.

Which external displays are compatible with simplyRemote?

Neodrives does not currently offer a display for the new simplyRemote. However, the Sigma Displays Rox 2.0, 4.0 and EOX View 1300 have been tested and can be used without any issues.
